HISTORY

Signalink was established in 2005.

Two employees working out of their family garage in Huntsville, Alabama, had a vision.

Today it is a thriving company with employees in four states—Alabama, Washington, New York, and Maryland—headquartered in a 4,000 sq. ft. business center and a 11,500 sq. ft. design and integration facility on an 8-acre campus in Madison, AL.

Signalink is a strategic blend Steve and Alice Lessmann’s collective military and civilian industry experience. From the beginning, teamwork and family have been an important part of the culture.

Steve and Alice met in the Army National Guard while serving with the 1/203rd Air Defense Artillery (Patriot) Battalion. They were married in 2002 and continued to serve in the National Guard as Signal and Medical Officers while maintaining full-time careers and starting a family.

By 2005, Alice was working long, rigorous hours as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in neurosurgery, and Steve traveled often in his role as a government contractor. This proved to be challenging for their family, and especially their one-year-old daughter.  When Steve retired from the National Guard that year, the circumstances inspired them to take a considerable risk as a family and start their own small business, forming Signalink, Incorporated.

The first several years were demanding, as Steve focused on building the company and Alice continued to work part-time as a nurse practitioner and attend Army National Guard drills while also working on behalf of Signalink, becoming certified as a facility security officer to provide security clearance for the company.  But Signalink proved a positive choice for the Lessmann Family, providing a career change for Steve and eventually allowing Alice to work from home and be with their children too.

The name Signalink is derived from Steve’s service in the Army’s Signal Corps and his civilian career as a tactical data link subject matter expert.

The company’s core competencies reflect a joining-of-forces with Steve’s background in business and expertise in tactical data links coupled with Alice’s military experience in logistics, her civilian work in the medical field, and a familiarity with operations. Steve is the official founder of Signalink and served as its President and CEO from December 2005 to August 2016. Alice then assumed the role of CEO and Steve as President, complementing their respective strengths and experience while also adding minority-owned and Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) to their designation as Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB) from August 2016 to October 2023 when Alice assumed the role of Cepeda’s CEO. Steve now serves as Signalink’s CEO which also changed the company’s socio-economic designation to Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB).
